In 2015, Joshua Gooch lost his friend and longtime collaborator (see thewobbliesca.bandcamp.com). This album documents feelings of loss, grief, and friendship in a series of meditative compositions. Recorded over a period of years, these pieces make use of a variety of instrumental strategies, from layered counterpoints to violin-like analog drones created by guitars run through volume pedals and effects. The one exception to this minimal use of synthesizers is "for a lost science fiction film," a homage to his collaborator's love for the electronic noises and soundscapes of 1970s and 1980s science fiction films. The album closes with a piece composed around the final three messages left by his friend, a piece created by beating open-tuned guitars and rolling feedback through volume controls.
